CRAZY ABOUT GREEN: WHY GREEN SHADES NEVER GET BORED
In recent years, we have seen the colour green pop up in trend forecasts time and time again. But can you still really call it a trend colour if you have been the favourite of interior lovers for so long? Green provides freshness and peace in the home and is also very easy to combine. You simply never get tired of green.
THE EFFECT OF GREEN
Colors are more powerful than you might think. And with some colors you sometimes even have to be a little careful in the house: they can make a room smaller or colder, but also trigger certain feelings in you. For example, red stands for warmth and fiery, but the color can also make you hyper-alert and unable to relax.
But then green... the color is associated with nature, sustainability, peace, freshness and balance. Green stands for positivity, something we can use in these turbulent times. And if you like color and your housemate doesn't, green is also a perfect compromise. Green is in the color spectrum between warm red and cool blue. In other words: green is always good.

HUNDREDS OF SHADES OF GREEN
No other colour has as many colour nuances as green: there are hundreds of them in total. And the human eye can distinguish all those different shades of green better than any other colour. Some researchers think that this is because we recognise so many shades of green from nature, but there is also a scientific reason. The human eye contains three cones with which you can distinguish colour during the day. These cones are each sensitive to a specific colour: red, green and blue. But the red cone also captures green light and that is why we see so many more shades of green than other colours.
With all the different shades of colour, there is always a shade of green that you will like. For example, one green tends more towards grey, another green towards the popular beige and olive green, avocado and army green are more for lovers of colour. And what do you think of the classic and slightly chic sage green? Poetic Pondicherry no. 58 is one of our favourite shades of green.

COOL AND WARM GREEN
Do you find it difficult to choose the right colour from all those shades of green? Then first look at the incidence of light in your home and base your choice on that for a cool or warmer shade of green. A room facing north can feel chilly with a cool shade of green, a warm shade of green will suit that much better. And that also applies to the reverse situation: is the room facing south and does the sun shine in for a large part of the day? Then a cool shade of green will suit that much better. In this article you can read more about the effect of incidence of light on a colour .
The colour pigments in green make the green shade warm or cold. Green is created by mixing yellow and blue and if you add equal amounts of both colours together, the purest green is created. If there is slightly more yellow than blue, the green shade becomes warmer and if blue is in the majority, the green becomes cooler in colour.

COMBINE GREEN
Precisely because green can take on so many guises, combining the colour is not that difficult. Green works beautifully in tone-on-tone: multiple shades of green can always be combined well with each other, especially when they have the same undertone. When you take the LAB colour card , you can see at a glance which shades of green go well together, but also with which other colours it is a perfect match . If you take the modest Mist no. 128 , you will see that it works well with Frosted Sand no. 374 in a Scandinavian or Japandi living style. Could it use a bit more spice? Then Army Green no. 211 is a good addition.
If you want to use green a little more daringly, then orange tones are very suitable for this. You can also see them opposite each other in Itten's colour wheel and that means that they provide a nice contrast. For example, the muted and subdued Limited Jade no. 479 can be combined very well with Nude Cashmere no. 312 and Tout no. 530. Surprising perhaps, but because of the same greying they fit together very well.
Or, like Joey Jaq, go for a warm combination of dark green on the stairs and a silky neutral on the wall. This way, the stairs become a real eye-catcher!
