Step-by-step plan Stair Coating

  1. Vacuuming the stairs.
  2. Degrease with LAB Paint Cleaner . Application: 10 parts lukewarm water; 1 part paint cleaner. Apply with a Vestingh cleaning sponge PROF (use green side). The cleaner is very concentrated, use gloves and be careful not to spill anything on walls, objects or floors that are not going to be treated.
  3. After 1 hour, remove any remaining paint cleaner with clean water.
  4. After drying, sand the stairs with Vestingh scouring sponge NR 1 orange (coarse) , NR 2 yellow (medium ) , NR 3 green (fine) or NR 4 blue (ultra fine) , depending on the condition of the stairs, choose the right sponge .
  5. Remove dust with a slightly damp cloth.
  6. Fill damaged areas with PRESTO quick-drying putty .
  7. Seal seams where necessary with Hybrid Sealant - Den Braven Hybriseal (use a color that most closely matches the color of the paint).
  8. Carefully tape off parts that are not to be painted with painter's tape on vulnerable surfaces .
  9. Apply 1 coat of LAB Houtprimer Indoor (primer) .
  10. Check the stairs for any irregularities or imperfections (fluff from a roller, bristles from a brush, differences in layer thickness) and sand away with Vestingh scouring pad NR 3 green (fine) depending on the surface. If there are no irregularities, the stairs do not need to be sanded.
  11. Apply 1st layer of LAB Floor Coating . Mix the coating mechanically (i.e. with a paint mixer and cordless drill). Thoroughly mix the A component (large can) and the B component (small can) in the can of the A component. Then pour the mixed coating into an empty can and mix well again. Never mix more than you use in 1 layer. After mixing you have about 1 hour to process the mixed coating.
  12. Wait 6 hours (our advice. If the room is 18-21 degrees and the stairs are dry and walkable after 4 hours, you can apply the next layer).
  13. Check the stairs for any irregularities or imperfections (fluff from a roller, bristles from a brush, differences in layer thickness) and sand away with Vestingh scouring pad NR 4 blue (ultra fine) . If there are no irregularities, the stairs do not need to be sanded.
  14. Apply 2nd layer Step 3 Floor Coating Top Coat, mix and apply in the same way as the first layer of Top Coat.
  15. Check whether the coverage is good and apply a 3rd layer if necessary. With gray colors, the coverage after 2 layers of coating is generally always good. White colors cover less well.
  16. Wait 6 hours (our advice. If the room is 18-21 degrees and the stairs are dry and walkable after 4 hours, you can apply the next layer).
  17. DO NOT SCAND!
  18. For extra wear resistance, apply a transparent wear layer (1 x) LAB Floor Coating wear resistant . Mix in the same way as the colored primer and coatings.
  19. Wait 4 hours.
  20. Carefully remove tape. If you locally pull the coating along with the tape, carefully cut the connection between the tape and the stairs with a sharp Stanley knife.

NB!

  • The curing of the coating takes 1 week. Walking in socks during this week. You can enter the stairs again 4 hours after the last layer has been applied.
  • Keep windows and doors closed while applying the coating. Make sure it is not too hot during coating (no warmer than 19 degrees). Then the coating dries too quickly.
  • White colors cover considerably less well than shades of gray. Depending on the layer thickness and color of the laminate/wood applied, 3-4 layers should be applied for an evenly opaque result, while gray shades are generally fully opaque in 2 layers.
