NO RULES FOR COLORS IN THE CHILDREN'S ROOM (OKAY, JUST ONE)

Blink three times and that little baby has turned into a toddler with a mind of his own or a teenager who keeps the door shut. Do you still have carte blanche for the nursery? Take that advantage and try out what you don't dare to do in the living room. From exuberant color combinations to colorful prints. Painting a nursery is a real party!

THE MOST FUN ROOM TO DECORATE

The children's room is for everyone and certainly for interior lovers the most fun room to decorate. Rachel Siwaletti alias De Huismuts and Sarah Chronis also secretly found the children's rooms the most fun projects in their new house. Your young-you comes out again, you dare to make slightly different choices than for the rest of the house and - in the case of a baby room - you are especially looking forward to the arrival of the new resident.

THE BEST COLORS FOR A CHILDREN'S ROOM

The time when pink was chosen for girls and blue for boys is over. In the nursery and children's room you can come up with the most beautiful colours and combinations. There are no rules. Okay, one then: it is good to take into account the influence of colour on the state of mind of your child. Preferably go for colours that radiate peace. After all, they also have to sleep. Which colours are those? We will give you a number of LAB COLOURS.

Colors that are very suitable for the nursery:

  • Green and blue have a calming and soothing effect. For the blue shades, look for the lighter colour tones. A green children's room can use both light and dark shades. With a special mention for the dreamy Poetic Pondicherry no. 58 and - for a nod to the seventies - Moss no. 41 .
  • Pastel colours: pale, soft colours are always good. If your child has set his or her sights on purple, Pastel Paradise no. 210 can be a very nice compromise. Real purple may be a bit too much for some children, because it also contains red.
  • Pink is of course an all time favorite and can be combined with green, brown, golden yellow, gray or lilac after the unexpected end of the pink phase. A nice example of a pink shade is Pink Peach no 24 .
  • Yellow is cheerful, lively and summery and a lovely colour for a child's room. Be careful with bright yellow or a completely yellow room, because your child can become just a little too active. But Vanilla Comfort no. 149 or Asian Sunrise no. 978 is beautiful in a baby or child's room .
  • Natural tones, such as brown and beige, are soothing for a child's room. Like Velvet Fudge no. 380 . If you don't want the room to look too grown-up, natural colours are the ideal basis for some more colourful choices. A touch of blue, pink or Orange Barista no. 117 gives the beige a bit more spice .

Of course, you can also combine the above colours beautifully with each other. Don't hold back. And what about a nice wallpaper? Be sure to also take a look at our wallpaper collection at Luxury By Nature . Kim Kötter, for example, went for a beautiful combination of a sturdy wallpaper and a soft natural shade.

CHOOSING COLORS TOGETHER WITH YOUR CHILD

You are not the only one who is sensitive to trends. Children can do it too. If you think they are still in the middle of the purple phase, green is already booming . There is really no way to paint against it. If you do not want to give the children's room a makeover every year, it is important to approach this tactically:

  • Keep the base somewhat neutral and definitely do not go for a trendy colour on the wall. Then you know for sure that you will have to get back to work within a few months.
  • Are you dealing with a real negotiator and do you have no other option than to make a little compromise? Then agree to paint one wall in your favorite color. Not all walls and certainly not the ceiling. Even the greatest hobby painter will regret that.
  • Add colour in the form of accessories. A colourful duvet cover can do a lot for a room.
  • Does your child enjoy helping? Then you could let them paint a panel in their favorite color. They will immediately know how much work it is. And if they really enjoy it, they can paint it over themselves when trend number so-and-so has arrived.

THESE COLORS ARE LESS SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN'S ROOM

There are many things you can do in a child's room, but there are a few colours that you might want to avoid. These are colours that keep your brain very alert or make you emotional, instead of guiding you to dreamland. Red is the best example of this and is therefore one that you should use in moderation. If you have your mind set on red, choose a somewhat subdued shade, preferably in the form of accessories. If you are going to use the red paintbrush, take the wall behind the bed. This way your child cannot see it when he or she is trying to sleep. Other colours that are less suitable for a child's room are mainly bright colours. Preferably choose a softer form of these.

SAFE PAINT FOR THE CHILDREN'S ROOM

For the baby and children's room, it is important to choose a water-based paint that does not contain solvents or toxic substances. LAB PAINT is such a sustainable paint brand and can therefore be safely used in the children's room. Another advantage of LAB Wallpaint: the paint has scrub class 1 and is therefore very easy to clean. A nice bonus in a children's room!

TRY OUT THE COLORS WITH SAMPLE POTS

Are you unsure about the colour or colour combinations? Then first order a number of colour samples or sample pots and try out the effect at home. The incidence of light can make a colour appear very different than in the store. For colour or wallpaper advice, you can also contact our colour and wallpaper advisors in the concept store in Bussum.
