6 RENOVATION, COLOR AND STYLING TIPS FROM JENNIFER EWBANK
1. LONGSTOCKING GUTS
Jennifer: 'I wanted a bright red piano, that just seemed so cool. So now it's there. It draws a lot of attention in the living room, and that's okay. That piano suits who I am. Oh well, you know, I do like a bit of Pippi Longstocking. All colours mixed together. As far as I'm concerned, red goes well with lilac and green. Why not?' Jennifer's ability to create special colour combinations is also reflected in the bedroom. The red Valentine no. 609 and Terra Pink no. 102 with the green Monumental Moss no. 265 on the woodwork is a combination you wouldn't immediately think of, but it works surprisingly well. Are you also looking for such colour combinations? Our colour and wallpaper advisors will be happy to help you on your way.
2. BANK OPPOSITE BANK
'Because Dutch living rooms are often long and narrow, you are quite limited in the arrangement of the seating area. This room is relatively wide and we thought it would be great to put two large sofas opposite each other. I saw this model at a friend's house and immediately fell for it. So we ordered two in deep green. We are very happy with this arrangement. It looks comfortable, cozy, very spacious and yet calm because of the symmetry.'
3. ALL THE RIGHT BUTTONS
The brass light switches are a luxurious accent on the colored walls. 'We found them in England. Only the wall sockets were already built in, and they turned out to be a different size than the English ones. It took quite some effort to solve that. My tip is: if you buy something like that abroad, check the sizes carefully.'
4. GO VINTAGE
A beautiful, albeit badly damaged terrazzo floor appeared under the tiles in the kitchen. 'The bizarre thing was that we already had the plan to lay terrazzo tiles in the kitchen to connect to the hall, where the original terrazzo was still. Then it just appeared here! It wasn't cheap to have the floor repaired by specialists, but we are so happy with it.' Of course, it is also good to cherish what you have from a sustainable point of view. Take Jennifer and Robin's bathroom. With LAB cementum (concrete look) it will soon look as good as new without any demolition work.

5. MATCH BIG AND SMALL
How do you decide what kind of rug you want in your living room? Black and white checked coffee cups gave Jennifer the idea for a rug with the same pattern. Although it was an intuitive choice for her, it is very smart and effective to let patterns return on different levels in an interior. So also look at the small things that you are in love with for bigger choices.
6. CARPET ON THE STAIRS
'It wasn't our first idea to cover the stairs with carpeting, but sometimes you have to be flexible. The plan was actually to paint the stairs black, I thought it would be cool with all those colours. But the stairs are covered with a kind of plastic, paint would wear off quickly and the stairs would be very slippery. So we made a switch to a solution that had never occurred to us: carpeting. Now we are super happy with it. The design has a vintage look and what works really well is that we also had it laid on the landing.'
