BACK TO THE ISLAND: HOW TO GIVE YOUR HOME THAT TYPICAL BOHEMIAN IBIZA ATMOSPHERE

Strolling through narrow streets, hopping from terrace to beach bed, scoring a lucky find at the local market and not a cloud in the sky. There is no better feeling than the holiday feeling. Do you want to hold on to that let-it-blow mood at least until Christmas? Then mix your interior with a touch of Ibiza for an always relaxed bohemian atmosphere.

WHAT IS A BOHEMIAN LIVING STYLE?

If you think of a bohemian interior mainly in terms of lots of junk and pastels, then you are actually doing the style of living a bit of an injustice. A bohemian style is characterised by natural materials and colours, the use of prints and a mix of styles. But above all by the relaxed and personal atmosphere.

The bohemian - or affectionately boho - style is a nod to a group of artists and writers who called themselves the bohemians in 19th century Paris. They were independent, opposed bourgeoisness and rigid traditions and showed courage in the field of fashion and interior. Not a bad club to join at all.

NOW THAT'S TYPICALLY BOHEMIAN

A boho interior is inviting, warm and surprising and anything but boring. Mixing and matching styles, colours and materials is typical of the style and you determine the framework yourself. Afraid that you will fly a bit off the rails and become heavily overstimulated rather than relaxed? Then pick your favourites from the characteristics of a typical bohemian interior.

    • Calm base of whites and naturals, combined with sun-bleached Mediterranean tones that remind you of the sun, sand and sea. A brighter accent colour is allowed, but not necessary.
    • Natural materials such as wood, reed, linen and wool.
    • Warm accents, such as accessories with brass and velvet cushions and curtains.
    • Large plants in terracotta pots: you can never have enough of them.
    • Glossy tiles, such as Moroccan zelliges or richly decorated Portuguese azulejos.
    • Jute and wool rugs in various shapes.
    • Finds from all corners of the world, but also from the local cycle.

    SLOW LIFE, SLOW INTERIOR

Also typical for a bohemian lifestyle is dealing more consciously with our planet. Slow living is really a way of life. A more sustainable life in which we do not blindly follow the umpteenth new trend, but make conscious choices that have less impact on the environment. You may already know slow fashion, but a slow interior also comes about in this way. In fact, you choose purely on your feeling for an interior and colours that suit you, that make you happy and of which you know that the production has had as little impact on nature as possible. Good to know that LAB paint meets exactly those conditions.

A slow interior naturally also includes handmade, timeless items in warm colours and in that typical boho style. Such as the fishermanslamps and mosquito nets by elpelut .

    COLORS FOR A BOHEMIAN INTERIOR

The quickest way to give your interior an Ibiza vibe is to paint one or more walls. And if you also paint the ceiling, then you are completely fine. Within the boho interior style, you can of course vary endlessly with colors. Just think back to your last beach holiday, the atmosphere of Ibiza and Marrakesh, the gray tones of olive trees and old-fashioned crafts and you have your color palette.

Maybe you've already been searching through all the LAB wallpaint colors ? Then it won't surprise you that the bohemian shade is Ibiza Rush no. 966. This color of the year 2024 simply breathes the warmth of the sun and the island. Combine the color with the slightly darker Golden Leaf no. 752 or go for boho chic with the richly bubbling Crystal Brut no. 307. Also very Ibiza, Tulum or another hippie destination are the LAB colors Ginger no. 260 , Arabic Desert no. 710 , Saint Tropez no. 460 , Lazy Sunday no. 429 and Bisou Bisou no. 829. A color to kiss, so beautiful!

You can also conjure up that typical Mediterranean atmosphere with sun-bleached and grayed shades such as White Wood no. 201 and the greener Zen Garden no. 680 . Terracotta Warrior no. 42 immediately takes you to sunny places, especially in combination with Nigiri no. 286 and Terra Pink no. 102 . And what do you think of the trend of the moment: butter yellow . A subtle yellow shade that still stands out just enough and ensures that you start your day happily every time.

Fancy a refreshing dip? Then Classic Coral no. 320 and Frozen Cocktail no. 27 form a lovely contrast with the warmer beige shade Fez no. 288 .

Tip! Do you want to try out the colours first? Then ordersample pots or colour samples of your favourites. This way you can discover how the colour will look on your wall during the day. The incidence of light does a lot for the colour - or not. By testing it out first, you prevent yourself from having to hold a brush in your hands again a week later.

LIME PAINT GIVES A REAL BOHO FEEL

If there is one type of paint that evokes the real boho feeling, it is lime paint. The effect immediately reminds you of the most beautiful holiday homes on Ibiza and far beyond. The powdery result of LAB chalk gives a warm, almost cuddly atmosphere and seems to have been applied loosely to the wall. With the paint you really give your own touch to the end result, because the way of applying it gives a streaky, cloudy or wild effect. Therefore, always have the lime paint applied by one person, because everyone has their own 'signature'.

Every LAB colour can be mixed in lime paint, but keep in mind that an entire room with lime paint can sometimes be a bit too much of a good thing. Combining different types of paint is the solution: apply the lime paint to one wall, for example, and combine this with wall paint or cementum in the same colour on the other walls. This way you create depth and variation and it becomes the place where you can completely relax.

ALSO VERY BOHEMIAN: THE CONCRETE LOOK

Do you like walls with a matte finish? Then LAB cementum is also recommended for a quiet base for your bohemian interior. With this you give walls and floors a tough concrete look and you create the grayed effect that is so typical for Mediterranean houses. Cementum can be mixed in all LAB colors, but also in any other color. This makes the system also beautiful to combine with lime paint or regular wall paint in the same or a different shade. Anyone can apply it and you can even apply it over tiles and joints, with a smooth, concrete look wall as a result.

With LAB cementum you can think quite
out of the box , because it can be used anywhere indoors: on the countertop and the dining table, but also in the bathroom. Also very boho and Ibiza-style: make a cupboard or bench from cellular concrete blocks and give it a concrete look with cementum.
