A LOOK INSIDE ELISE BOERS AND WOUTER PEELEN'S HOME: WHERE THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES
Waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread, because your baker is the neighbor. Ten meters from the shopping street, but also on the water and with a private forest in the backyard. The enterprising couple lives mostly on Ibiza, but that doesn't mean they don't love to bring the sun back to the Netherlands. The house of Elise Boers and Wouter Peelen is a dream, and we were lucky enough to be allowed to look around.
- Residents: influencer and entrepreneur Elise Boers (38) with model Wouter Peelen (37) and their children Wolf, Luca (twins of 4) and Coco (1)
- Living style: rural eclectic
- Since: April 2023
- Special: a plot of 875 square meters in the village
Outside it is already grey enough and that is exactly why Elise and Wouter's interior feels like you are witnessing the sunrise or sunset non-stop . 'Our style is delightfully eclectic, very colourful and a bit busy. It is soft, yellow, light, with ceramics, lots of colours and incredibly warm. In the living room and open kitchen alone you will find six colours and a wallpaper. It feels like a warm blanket. We want people to come over, flop down on the couch and not want to leave.'
STAR IN RENOVATIONS
The colours in the house are a mix of the sunset in Morocco and the green of nature. Wouter: 'These are the places we like to be the most. The colours in Morocco are like you see them almost nowhere else in the world. The walls in the living room feel like the sun is setting in the desert.'
To say that the house needed a small transformation to become a dream home is an understatement. 'Everything, with the emphasis on everything, had to be renovated. From the roof to the entire floor downstairs. The house was Jan des Bouvrie in his black and white phase, including a stretch ceiling and lots and lots of spotlights,' laughs Elise. 'Luckily this was not the first house that Wouter renovated.'
GENIUS DISCOVERY
Wouter has an extra sense for the foundation of the house, Elise sees what ultimately finishes it. Elise: 'Luckily we are very much on the same page. I trust him when it comes to colours, floors and the foundation. For example, I quickly think that a floor is too dark, but in the end he is always right.' It is clear that the two reinforce each other. 'Elise always finds a super cool painting or a great vase. She comes home with attributes that provide the finishing touch . She recently found a wooden camel stool with a leather backrest. It looks fantastic in the living room, really genius. And if something doesn't work, we always agree on that too.'
BALANCE IS KEY
The couple's kitchen proves that not everything has to be expensive. 'We are proud of the kitchen', says Elise. 'The basis is Ikea, but pimped with a different top, beautiful taps, handles and of course the colour Softened Green no. 271. The inspiration comes straight from a designer kitchen in Soho New York. It just doesn't have to be very expensive, while it certainly looks that way.' As long as it doesn't feel new. That is the starting point of the two. 'It has to feel like it has been used, but chic. Not a hodgepodge from the thrift store, but a vintage chair next to a sleekly painted door,' Wouter explains.
HALL FULL OF STATEMENTS
In the hall you are surprised by powerful colour statements. 'I am so happy with this,' says Wouter proudly. The red-pink wallpaper sets the tone and combines effortlessly with the soft pink window frames and the bright red door. A striking contrast that gives the space a daring and playful twist. Surprising, warm and full of character. You feel more than welcome.
IBIZA STYLE
PRETTY IN PINK
When we walk on to Coco's room, she should actually be taking her afternoon nap. We are allowed to take a quick peek. You might expect Coco no. 554 on the walls, but a pink tone-on-tone palette really comes into its own here. Pink Peach no. 24 on the walls, By Juliet no. 152 on the window frames and on the door: Sugar Kiss no. 733. 'She always falls asleep within a minute.' That is inevitable in such a wonderfully soft and pink room. TWINNING IS WINNING
Lively and playful, just like the twins themselves. Wolf and Luca are very proud of their room and actually no one is allowed to come in. Wolf stands demonstratively with his arms in front of the door. Not even two seconds later he is sitting proudly on the bed to show off all his cuddly toys. The blue tones connect the room with the colours outside. In this light space there is enough space to let the vivid fantasies of the island boys run free.
NOT AFRAID
The unity in the house lies in the use of colours. Even if you don't see it right away. Wouter: 'The light blue and light green in the boys' room is the same colour as downstairs in the kitchen. The colour in the living room can be seen in the bedroom. The pink in the hall is the pink in Coco's bedroom. The recurring colours create unity in the house. We took everything to the studio, including the stair runner, to see: this is going to be fine. And we are not afraid of colour. My philosophy is to always choose a little more blue and a little more pink than you initially think of.' Don't be afraid to use (a lot of) colour: noted .
