This soft grey-green simply deserves its name as it is the most historic of all Farrow & Ball whites. One of Farrow & Ball’s traditional neutrals, Farrow & Ball Old White No. 4 can be read as an understated green, especially in north-facing rooms, but feels more of a classic grey in well-lit spaces. It is the most refined of the shades and is equally at home in the drawing room of a period house as it is in the kitchen of a modern family home. Use Farrow & Ball undercoat in Mid Tones .

Using a 100ml sample pot is an easy way to test colours in the room you are painting. Instead of applying directly to the wall, we recommend applying two coats of each of your sample pots to sheets of paper or card (the larger the better) and allowing to dry. Stick your painted sheets up in the room you are painting. Move them around the room to see how the colour changes throughout the day and in different light conditions. The sample pot contains Estate Emulsion, a high- quality, ultra-matt chalk paint for interior ceilings and walls (ultra-matt: 2% sheen).
