This grey-brown classic takes its distinctive name from the light brown colour of the British field mouse. Quiet in nature, the green Farrow & Ball Mouse's Back No. 40 is soft to the touch in both large and small rooms. It takes on a greener tone when used on the walls of underlit rooms and is the perfect accent on furniture or flooring when paired with more traditional shades such as Farrow & Ball Setting Plaster No. 231 and Farrow & Ball Lime White No. 1 . Use with Farrow & Ball undercoat in Mid Tones .

Using a 100ml sample pot is an easy way to test colours in the room you are painting. Instead of applying directly to the wall, we recommend applying two coats of each of your sample pots to sheets of paper or card (the larger the better) and allowing to dry. Stick your painted sheets up in the room you are painting. Move them around the room to see how the colour changes throughout the day and in different light conditions. The sample pot contains Estate Emulsion, a high- quality, ultra-matt chalk paint for interior ceilings and walls (ultra-matt: 2% sheen).
