Colours like this were common in the anterooms and boudoirs of country houses from the 1870s through to the time of Edward VII. A light touch of grey prevents this subtle pink from becoming too sugary, giving a much fresher finish. In smaller rooms it will be intense, but in larger, well-lit rooms it will feel much more delicate. Use Farrow & Ball undercoat in White & Light Tones .

Using a 100ml sample pot is an easy way to test colours in the room you are painting. Instead of applying directly to the wall, we recommend applying two coats of each of your sample pots to sheets of paper or card (the larger the better) and allowing to dry. Stick your painted sheets up in the room you are painting. Move them around the room to see how the colour changes throughout the day and in different light conditions. The sample pot contains Estate Emulsion, a high- quality, ultra-matt chalk paint for interior ceilings and walls (ultra-matt: 2% sheen).
