Washi or washi paper is a type of paper made from the fibres of the bark of gampi trees, the mitsumata bush or the paper mulberry. In addition, washi paper can also be made from bamboo, hemp, rice and wheat. Washi paper was first produced in Japan. The name washi comes from the Japanese wa (Japanese) and shi (paper). It is a traditional product that is made by hand.
